Sleep and eyes

Sleep benefits are so well explained in most of the magazines & journals. We are well aware of healthy lifestyle and importance of good sleep. Sleep deprivation not only affects our health but also affects our eye health. Inadequate sleep is related to increased risk of adverse health outcome including mental and cardio-metabolic health. Less sleep relates to wanting to be alone, social withdrawal, and loneliness as well as many mental disorders such as   negative emotions & depression are often comorbid with sleep problems. Poor sleep can lead to dark circles around lids, dry eyes, fatigueness and blurred vision. Patients with sleep issues eg  sleep apnea can suffer from various ocular disorders including floppy eyelids causing exposure in night leading to keratitis (inflammation of corneal surface), retinal vascular disorder (Ischemic optic neuropathy, retinal vein occlusion)  can lead to sudden loss of vision, and finally can also cause raised intracranial pressure progressing towards Papiolledema (swelling of Optic nerves).
